what’s thriveable?

Hi, I’m Jenny Ferry and my goal here is to be generous. Generous with the kind of information you normally don’t get from life coaches and other self-development folks out there.

In fact, this isn’t really another blog on how to improve or simplify your life with quick fixes or “how to” suggestions. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. (Thank you, Seinfeld!) I figure some world-class resources already exist out there. Truly insightful writing and laser-focused life advice can be found on two blogs that I genuinely admire and wholeheartedly believe help an awful lot of people, including me: Leo Babauta’s Zen Habits and Tina Su’s Think Simple Now. Plus, there are several other highly-respected top-notch lifestyle writers listed in the blogroll, just glance over at the right side bar. I love to be generous with resources, too.

Rather, here you’ll find reflections of my life, my personal journey. I’m certainly not a life coach with a perfect life. Nor do I believe that’s a prerequisite to sharing what I’ve learned. In fact, I really don’t think of myself as a life coach because my innate skill is as a lifestyle designer. I’ve been actively engaged in unconventional living – full-blown experience hopping – since I was 17 and on my own.

Here’s what I’ve discovered: where and when I find myself genuinely happy and fulfilled, where and when my life is thriving, growing, flourishing, or prospering has always intersected with two things: 1) my determined ability to reach outside of myself regardless of my personal circumstances and 2) my ability to synthesize others insights and ideas.

My greatest desire here is to be generous, vulnerable and completely honest with you in these musings on life, learning and growth. Hop on board, you’ll ride the mental wave with me of what the Greeks call sunesis or a mental putting together. Another definition I’ve heard translates sunesis as rivers of understanding coming together. I love that.

I believe there are so many intelligent, talented and fascinating souls on our populous earth, precious people who contribute truly original and innovative ideas. So I’ll share what I’ve been blessed to *see,* pull together seemingly disparate bits and pieces from this wealth of human insight, sense the pathways to integration, and then tickle your brain, too, with the fascination of possibility from my quirky recipe for thought process.

Here’s my vision: You can create something truly remarkable in your own life. It’s not about being a survivor of your challenging or ho-hum circumstances. It’s not about maintaining the status quo. It’s about truly thriving your life with deep meaning, happy and fulfilling choices, and sheer contentment and gratitude for a life well lived. I highly encourage it everyday – because the ability to thrive is your natural state.

That’s what thriveable means to me.
